My Life with Diabetes

Sickness...blah!
If one has a choice, avoid this wretched sickness bug....it makes you feel miserable with the seemingly relentless nausea and vomiting, plays havoc with your blood sugars and makes you feel absolutely dreadful...the waves of stomach cramps aren't much fun either.

...almost two years later....
Unbelievably, it is almost 2 years since my last post....even I struggle to imagine that two years has passed... seriously, where has the time gone?
So what has changed? Well, sadly I have only got 2 dogs now, we lost my beloved George almost exactly a year ago. He was 16 years old and was in really good health almost until the end and, as they say, he had a good innings. I still have my lovely 'girls', Sprite and Clover and they are wonderful and such good company,
The other main change is that both of my children have now got their own places so now it's just me and the dogs and cats. As a Type 1 Diabetic this has been challenging at times. Only this afternoon my son popped over to check I was ok after a hypo. I was a bit annoyed with this afternoon's hypo if I am honest, I accidentally gave myself too much insulin at lunch time....a silly mistake...I just lost concentration...
I have been struggling with an ulcerated foot wound for the last 5 months and I am back on antibiotics...again! Very fed up with the whole thing.

Day One of my blog
Life is not always easy; that is certainly true of mine recently. Anyway, I'll explain more in the forthcoming episodes. Today is a good day, well so far anyway, I'm celebrating my "perfect" blood sugars: blood test first thing was 5.5 mmol, after a quick breakie I walked my three Lurchers on the common and my blood sugars were 4.9 mmol. I am delighted to say the least! It mkes a welcome change from the 27.1 - 31.6 mmol that I was struggling with last week...
